Dantalion of the Goetia: Taste the Obsession of a Demon - Page 62/108

Then I sank inside my soul, realizing the question I'd been avoiding.

"How can we possibly be together, when we're from completely different worlds?" I needed to hear it from him. I already knew the answer. And I knew his demonic powers extended far beyond healing or seduction. There was an animalistic instinct I noticed many times before, almost like a lust that never seemed to be quenched for him. His hunger was something I could never give. I saw the way demons feed off one another, devouring each other for power. And the way they fed off humans, taking every piece of their body and soul. It was a slow death for me to believe our physical differences could be ignored. I would never be certain if he was capable of true emotion, and if so, we both knew how it destroyed his immortality. And yet, I couldn't think of living a day without him in my life. I thought he might be able to change our destiny somehow.

"Laurel, I love you. You bind my soul to yours, but also my heart. This love is for eternity," was all he said, gliding me under the current of the waterfall, both of us clinging onto one another.

"Show me how you shape shift," I asked him straight out.

He grinned. I never caught Dantalion flashing a smile like this one. This time, I noticed the pronounced sharpness of four canines protruding from his chiseled jaws. I stared longer than I should have, his grin disappearing at the detection of my startled expression.

"We are demons Laurel. Flesh eaters," he replied, becoming defensive.

"No, it's okay. I'm sorry," wrapping my arms around his waist. "It's just, I never really noticed how sharp they were," trying to make him feel less self conscious.

"I think you're beautiful. You don't have to hide it, " I smiled.

"Demons are very careful as to whom we reveal our true form…not all of us are shape shifters," he flashed the canines again, resembling a cross between a seventeenth century vampire and a wolf. Besides devouring me, I was hesitant to ask what other flesh was part of his diet.

"When the phases of the moon are new, waxing and full, I can transfer my true demonic form into the human form you saw before, dark eyes, no claws, no sharp teeth. I shape shift between my realm and yours," he explained. "Now is the time of the waning moon, when you see me in my true form, full fledged demon," he beamed, holding out his dagger like fingers to his pointed teeth.
