"Darryl." Her face list up, air kissing his cheek.
Rosalie Salvador
She looked gorgeous, like an angel in her shimmering white floor length gown. She is what my mother would describe as-proud, loud, self confident, brassy. But then she has never been a good judge of character. Diamonds dripping from her ears, throat and wrist. Highlighting her skin and eyes.
I held my breath as she kissed my cheek.
"I must admit, you have excellent taste Darryl. Don't you think so Tore?"
Taking my hand, he leans in and kisses my cheek before pulling back. "Yes, he does. Excellent taste."
Looking at Darryl, he adds. "I welcome her into the family."
Just like that? So quickly? What game was he playing?
I took a sip of champagne to moisten my mouth and clear my throat."Thanks." Which was the most polite thing to say.
A server carrying a tray of champagne stopped besides us refilling our glasses. Darryl suddenly sets his hand on my lower back and a shock of awareness moved through me.
I remain still. Knowing too well that it was best not to acknowledge him. His mother's eyes darting between us, waiting for one of us to say something. Surely it won't be me. Fighting the urge to gnaw on my bottom lip.
"I met with the capo de capi, the head of Chicago yesterday. He is pretty excited to be working with you. He has agree to peace, should he have my daughter's hand in marriage."
