Annie Kilburn
Returning from Italy to Massachusetts in the late 1800s, Annie Kilburn takes on the social causes of her time in this American Realist novel. As she works on the behalf of sick children, she ultimately becomes emotionally attached to her charges, as well as the Unitarian minister who advises her.
