It was almost 9:00 a.m., and Jamo was ready to leave. His parents wanted to know if he was joining them for breakfast; he said no and told them he was taking the day off to take care of some personal business.
He met Malana, and they went to the bank. He spoke to the bank manager and requested to have his money moved into a personal account. The manager suggested opening a brokerage account, but Malana quickly interrupted and said, "He will need more time to think about that. Being his financial advisor, I will make recommendations on the best brokerage firms."
The manager, sitting there with a stunned look on his face, was attempting to determine who this woman was and asking himself, When did this woman become Jamo's mouthpiece?
After all, the administrator knew the family for many years, and the money from the trust would remain at the bank. If the bank manager showed signs of confusion, it would not be long before the rest of the community would be befuddled.
One million dollars went into Jamo's private account. He and Malana thanked the manager, left the bank and went back to the hotel. The two celebrated by toasting each other with champagne; she reminded him to open an on-line bank account.
"It is more convenient and easier to transfer funds without having to go to the bank," she emphasized.
They then went to bed and made love for the remaining day. While in bed, he asked her to marry him. She accepted his proposal with steadfast delight and said, "I will be sending you information on some great brokerage companies. Do nothing with the money until you hear from me."
His response was, "Yes, my love."
Malana received a phone call and talked for almost thirty minutes. Jamo was getting dress and planning to take her out to dinner. When she got off the phone, she had to return home due to a family emergency and reassured him that it was not serious.
He wanted to go with her. She reminded him that he needed a passport, an international certificate of vaccination for various shots, and a visa in order to stay in her country.
"Obtaining these documents will take time, and you can apply for these papers while I am gone, and when I return to D.C., we can leave together for Benin."
She was able to get a flight out the next day and asked him to spend the night.
It was Tuesday morning, and Malana was all packed and ready to go. Jamo called a cab; they rode to the airport and arrived two hours before the plane was to leave. They had breakfast at the terminal.
