"The Price Is Right…" Mr. Ellis suddenly said.
"Sure no problem…" Jayden pressed the channel button until the show that Mr. Ellis indicated he wanted to see came on.
"I'll be right back… going to throw these into the washer and dryer." He explained as he went to his laundry room. Abruptly a small laminated white card fell out of his pants' pocket. Jayden looked down and picked it up. It was Mr. Ellis identification card with his photo, name and residency on it. It also had a telephone number of the nursing home. Jayden put the card inside his own pocket. He would call the nursing home as soon as he got the wash started.
Meanwhile, thoughts of Mia penetrated his mind and he couldn't help wondering who the old man was. What was the nature of their relationship? From his perspective, the man looked too young to be her father and too old to be her brother. But then again, if that had been the case wouldn't that have come up in the introduction? Wait, why the hack was he even wrangling about Mia? Mia wasn't his girlfriend. She wasn't even a friend. She was just someone that he was trying to fuck so why should he care who she was sleeping around with. He was just trying to get his piece of the pie with Mia two.
"Eat…" Mr. Ellis expressed when he saw Jayden emerging from the laundry room.
"What would you like?" He asked and again he was relatively surprised with the amount of ease he was feeling around Mr. Ellis this time. Where had all of his anger and frustration gone? Why wasn't he cursing himself out and even swearing at Mr. Ellis? He shook his head. He'll think about it after everything. Right now he wanted to finish the wash and return Mr. Ellis back to the nursing home. Maybe he would even be able to get back and reopen his shop before it was too late.
Jayden placed a plate of his mom's parmesan pork chops with a side of string beans and macaroni casserole in front of him. He was actually happy to give those pork chops away considering he had decided to try becoming a vegan. He hadn't wanted to throw the meat away and yet he didn't want his mother to think he didn't appreciate her thoughtfulness. His father began digging in, enjoying the food.
"Dang Marla I didn't know you could throw down like this in the kitchen…" Mr. Ellis words made Jayden drop his fork. How did he know that his mom had cooked the food? He even called his mother by her name.
