"Yea this is Jayden Eric Townsend…" Jayden answered on the other end of the phone. He didn't recognize the number or the person on the other end of it.
"My name is Mr. Palmer and you applied for a job with us at U.P.S.; are you still interested?"
Jayden couldn't believe it. Finally after almost a year he finally got the call he had been waiting for- an offer for an interview for a job.
"Sure am." He replied trying to contain his happiness.
"Great… We're holding interviews next week; would you prefer a morning or afternoon interview?" The man asked.
"Afternoon…" Jayden responded while quietly jumping up and down and spinning around in his excitement. His behavior drew his mom into the kitchen where he was talking on the phone. She questioned him with her eyes as she leaned against the doorjamb listening in. Jayden couldn't help but grinning from ear to ear as he set up his appointment for the interview.
"What was that all about?" Marla asked as he hung up the phone. Before answering Jayden did a little victory dance and song as his mother watched.
"Hmm must be some good news… Was it Simone?" She asked knowing that her son had a secret crash on the girl next door.
"Ha… better than that… Well maybe not better but…" He said giving it some second thoughts.
"Are you going to tell?" Marla asked again.
"U.P.S. They want me to come in for an interview…" He finally told her while still prancing around the kitchen.
"Really… Congratulations… Finally..." She said sharing in her son's joy. She knew that he had been looking for part-time work for some time now.
"What time?" Marla asked knowing that she would have to be responsible for getting him to the site.
"Four-thirty in the afternoon; is that good for you?" Jayden asked a little worriedly. He had picked that time because he knew that most of the time his mom was home by one-forty-five in the afternoon because she worked the early shift at the local hospital.
"That's perfect… You know what you're going to wear?" She asked as he ran to his room.
"I'm working on it now…" He told her as he entered his room closing the door behind him. Marla smiled at her son. She was very proud of how he was growing up despite any real positive male influence on his life. It brought tears to her eyes when she thought about all the times how she had prayed for God to watch over her son guiding him into his righteousness and keeping him safe. She certainly felt that when it came to Jayden God had been listening to her.
