Wednesday started out as a beautiful day balmy, sunny, warm, no longer hot, as fall would be coming soon, but still did not have the fall chill in the air either. Starke was home but he was in the office which was in the front of their very big house. Marie was in her playhouse in the yard, having had her breakfast.
Candee had fed Jamie and was doing the dishes from breakfast, while Jamie was in his play yard near by watching him mommy and listening to her humming. When she finished, she turned to him and said, well my big beautiful boy, what do you say we go out onto the terrace, as she pushed the play yard over to the big double doors, she got the play yard out, and then remembered she forgot, the two way radio, she used with her daughter, and the portable phone incase Julie called. She bent down to Jamie, and said, "Mommy will be right back sweetheart," and went to retrieve the items she forgot. She never saw the figure sneak out of the wooded area and stealthily make his way towards the terrace.
Normally she would have been gone three minutes tops, but she could not find the portable phone, which had gotten wedged down in the cushions of the couch. When she finally did find the phone, she picked up the two way radio, and headed for the door immediately.
As she stepped outside, she walked over to the patio table and set the phone and two way radio down, she turned towards her son, and gasp! He was not in the play yard she hurried to it as if she simply could not see him, then she ran down the steps looking around the yard, she of course did not realize that all this happened in mere seconds, as she let out a blood curdling scream and crumpled to the ground ..
Starke was in the home office, because it was a beautiful day some of the windows of the house were open, and he heard the terrible loud scream, all the way from the back of the house, he jumped up so fast sending the computer chair flying across the room, and bolted through the house in what seemed minutes but was actually seconds.
What he saw as he hurried through the doors, that he almost ripped off the hinges, terrified him, he saw the empty play yard, and he saw Candee lying at the bottom of the steps leading down from the terrace, as he leaped down the stairs, it went through his mind that she may have fallen on the baby.
