Jennifer entered her room. Michael wasn't there, but there was a note from him on their bed. The note said he was finishing up some last minute details and would meet her downstairs for dinner at four-thirty pm.
She had over two hours before she was to meet Michael so she showered and changed into a very pretty dress. After she got dressed she paced around the room, nervous about her meeting with Michael. At four fifteen she decided to go downstairs and wait in the lobby. She got into the elevator car and pushed the lobby button. As the doors closed her thoughts went back to John and all the fun they had together over the past few days. As quickly as she thought about it, she tried to push it out of her mind, but to no avail. The elevator doors opened up and she saw Michael sitting in a lobby chair holding his cell phone to his ear not talking, he was just listening. As she walked up to Michael, she tried to put on a big smile for him. He stood up, an almost angry look on his face as he closed his cell phone hard. "What happened between you and John in Venice?"
Suddenly her stomach knotted into a ball, she felt her pulse start to race and felt her face flush. She knew she hadn't done anything inappropriate with John, well except for kissing him. She then thought about the question. How dare he ask her a question like that after what he had done with Vittoria. She frowned at him. "Nothing, absolutely nothing went on, what's the matter. Why would you think I would have done something?"
Michael shook his head. "I just played back my phone messages. John rescheduled his flight back home and took off for the airport an hour ago. He just gave me notice. I can't believe he quit the company without giving me a reason why."
Jennifer's face showed her surprise. "He didn't say anything to me that he was going to do that. Did you say something to him when he returned?"
"No. The last time I talked to him was before you two left for your Venice weekend. I don't get it. I was hoping to keep him around for a couple more weeks before terminating him."
Jennifer stiffened up. "What do you mean you were hoping to keep him around for a couple more weeks before terminating him? I thought you were so happy with him for making that gadget work for you? Didn't you make him the new senior supervisor for his department?"
