"What were you doing down there?" One of the officers asked him.
"I'm knew here and I was looking for a good place to go fishing next weekend," Arflin replied.
The officers asked to see his driver's license. When they were satisfied he was telling the truth they let him go.
As he was driving away he watched in the rear view mirror as the policemen turned and drove down the dirt road where Cat Lady was. He needed to get back to his apartment as soon as he could. The officers were certain to find her body and put out an all points bulletin of his description and the vehicle he was driving.
He pulled over to the side of the road and got the pistol he had hidden. He needed to get rid of the jeep. He spotted a pick up waiting at a dirt road for him to pass. He pulled onto the dirt road and blocked the truck. He told the man to get out of the truck. When the man refused, he pulled the pistol out and aimed it at him. The man got out of the car with his arms raised. Arflin motioned for the man to go into the woods. When the man entered the woods Arflin shot him in the back of his head. He then took the jeep and drove it into the woods and out of sight of passerby's. He got in the man's truck and went back to his own apartment. He knew it would only be a matter of hours before the authorities would be on to him. He needed to leave Bogota as soon as possible.
He got the money he kept in the suitcase along with some clothes and drove to the airfield. Carmen had just finished changing the oil in his plane and was getting ready to take off when he saw Arflin.
"Would you take me to Cartagena today? I really must get there. I have urgent business. I will make it worth your while," Arflin asked.
"I can take you there. I'm in this business to make money. I never refuse an offer to make extra money," Carmen said as Arflin loaded his suitcases into the back of the airplane.
When the plane landed in Cartagena, Arflin gave Carmen an extra five hundred pesos to keep quiet about where he took him if anyone should ask, especially the police.
Arflin threw his suitcases on the sailboat. He untied the bow and stern lines and motored out to open sea. He hoisted the sails and set a course for Aruba.
