"Is that what you are; a psychic?"
"No questions."
"Shit. Okay. Sorry. So we somehow refer cases to you?"
"No. You list cases and we pick and choose."
"Where do we do list them?"
"Post details on a web site that only us can access without any fear we can be traced by using it."
"I guess that's possible."
"We have specific criteria and certain limitations. Our first and foremost priority is recovering abducted children, as soon as possible. Our second choice is fingering the abductor. Third concentration is stopping serial abductors or serial killers."
"Can you hint at your limitations?"
"Forget anything much more than forty-eight hours old and anything where a nearly exact time of abduction isn't known. We need an exact location too, within fifty or a hundred feet. GPS coordinates, maybe."
"So no go on the 'grassy knoll' or Jon Benet Ramsey?"
"Not even close. We can't even do an abduction that happens sometime over night but you don't know the hour."
"What exactly do you want from us?"
"We need detailed and timely information of any and all abductions, anywhere in the country. Often times now, nothing is posted until hours later and only general locations."
"We don't always get timely information ourselves. A lot of jurisdictions aren't in a hurry to get us involved. I may have to work on improving that."
I checked my notes. "We need a tip line that will guarantee what we say is taken seriously and acted upon with haste. Lives have been lost because we've either not been believed or someone was too late following up."
"Good idea."
"I also want access to data bases that might help such as Motor Vehicle registrations, crime records, outstanding warrants; that sort of thing."
"You're not going vigilante on us are you?"
"No; just the opposite. We won't go anywhere near the crime scene; ever. We just want to be in the know."
"What else?"
"We could use your help on how we remain anonymous. Is there a voice scrambler so we have more security when we call in tips?"
"I'm sure our people have that stuff. Prying it loose and getting it to you might be a problem. I'll have to go upstairs and somehow convince someone higher."
"It took a lot of soul searching to come to you. We put ourselves at risk with any contacts like this."
"I see you point. It could be touchy. I can vouch for myself but going out on the limb for someone else is a whole different ball game. They might just figure I'm a whack case or worse yet, want to round you up and stuff you in their back office."
