Chapter 121: Military Firearms
It was a heavy handgun, its color dim under the light from the phones. There was almost no reflection, and it seemed as though it was covered with some dark paint. The gun was heavy, heavier than Zhang Xiao Qiang’s .54. There were 2 rows of English on the sleeve of the gun, and he didn’t recognize any of the words until he saw the letters and numbers ‘M1911A1’. Having studied a little about the guns in the past, he knew this was an American handgun from the 2nd World War.
He opened the sleeve, noting that it was clean without a speck of dust in it. Pulling out the magazine, there were no bullets within. He looked towards the crates around, and they were all kept extremely well in this place. Numerous handguns were packed nicely in clothes, and there were about 8 or 9 of them. Yang Ke’er pulled out another oil cloth, and an old smell of oil permeated through the air. They were most likely used to preserve the guns in the past.
Zhang Xiao Qiang opened up another bag and found a number of old yellowish military uniform packed neatly. He pulled out one and recognized them as the uniform of the 2nd World War, and even with the decades, the clothes were still decent. He used one of them to clean the gun, and threw the dirty uniform to one side, before assessing the gun in his hand again. He then pulled the sleeve again, feeling the lack of the astringent sense previously, and pulled the trigger. “Ka…” He looked at it, pleased.
The wooden crates were all opened up, and the packaging all torn open, as a number of rifles, carbines, Tommy guns, other hand weapons, grenades, ammunition, radio sets, handheld sets, landlines and other military uniforms were all displayed.
One particular box was opened, and Zhang Xiao Qiang saw that there was a rusty machine gun stand. Beside it, there was something wrapped tightly in some oil cloths. He held his breath as he flipped the cloth away, revealing a cold gun sitting on the cloth. It was an M1919A4 machine gun, used in the war. There was a strong scent of oil on it, and as he held it in his hands, it weighed about 20 to 30 jin.
He placed it back with a look of pity, it was too heavy, and not convenient to use. If he carried it while running, he would not be able to outrun even an ordinary zombie. The .81 was still a better toy.
The number of weapons here was almost enough to equip an entire battalion. After looking and discovering the mortars and the light machine guns, he confirmed that it was an actual armory for a battalion. As he continued further in, he saw what used to be the entrance, that had been destroyed by an explosive in the past. The resulting rocks had destroyed some nearby boxes, revealing the contents, where there were countless yellowish documents.
He took one up and saw that there were the words [National Army, XX Division, XX Battalion 3rd Company, Register] on it. The rest of the documents were also reports and military orders. In the end, he came across some documents revealing the origins of the weapons and items in here. Apparently, during the Chinese Communist Revolution, the Communist Party had crossed the Yangtze River, and J City had been surrounded. In the end, the commanding officer had ordered for the entire battalion supplies to be sealed, so that there was a possibility of them returning to regain and fight back. Unfortunately, it had not happened.
Zhang Xiao Qiang took out 3 handguns, handing one each to Yang Ke’er and Yuan Yi. He then took and kept about a 1,000 rounds. After taking one more look at this forgotten arsenal of the National Army of the past, he turned around and left.
It was not the time to use them yet. After all, his own strength was still lacking. Brother Long and his men were still out there, and if they knew he had found some weapons, they would immediately flip all pretense. Zhang Xiao Qiang did not want to see a situation where humans turned on one another.
Halfway back, he suddenly whipped around to tell Yang Ke’er and Yuan Yi: “Do not say anything to anyone, not even Su Qian!” He was still not satisfied with her and wanted to observe her for a while more.
Thus, the boring task of transporting resumed. As to Yang Ke’er’s confusion, he had to come up with numerous reasons to shake her off. Yuan Yi had no qualms about any request of his. Su Qian did not dare to disobey. Fortunately, there was no need to move everything to the platform, just at the corridor. Like this, the work was lessened by a lot, and Zhang Xiao Qiang hooked up some wires to light up the place, increasing the speed.
By the time they were done, it was dark outside, and they ate a simple dinner together before they went to sleep. Soon after, Zhang Xiao Qiang felt a soft and nubile body squeezing into his embrace. He smelled her calm and cool scent and he immediately closed his eyes from exhaustion. He had not yet fallen asleep when another warm body squeezed in and pushed Yuan Yi out. He took a whiff and could smell the fresh fragrance of an apple, and knew it was Yang Ke’er.
He hugged them both with his hands and they closed their eyes, while Yang Ke’er muttered a few words under her breath before she fell asleep. Yuan Yi had placed her face to his shoulder and slept soundly. Zhang Xiao Qiang looked at both beauties before he sighed and shut his eyes once more.
When he next opened his eyes, the sky was starting to get bright, and Yuan Yi had woken up. Instead, Yang Ke’er was still laying across his chest sleeping soundly, her drool drenching his entire chest area. He sent a tight slap across her little butt, and she immediately yelled as she woke up in pain.
“Time to get up, such a fine lady and you’re still drooling in your sleep! And you got it all over my chest, so disgusting!” As he said that, he took off his shirt. His chest was also shining with traces of the drool.
In response, Yang Ke’er just looked at it without any sense of shame. She patted her mouth as she yawned, her face dreamy as she muttered: “So hateful, I just dreamt of eating nice chicken feet, and you had to wake me up right as I was about to bite it. So frustrating!!”
Zhang Xiao Qiang could not be bothered, and fortunately, he had slapped her awake. Otherwise, she might really have bit down on him. At this time, Yuan Yi came with a pail of water, her hands holding 2 towels. Zhang Xiao Qiang did not wait for her to help him wash up, as he grabbed a towel and began cleaning his chest. Yang Ke’er sat on the edge of the bed and shut her eyes, her body swaying once more. It seemed as though she was about to fall back asleep.
Yuan Yi opened up the remaining towel and began to help Yang Ke’er clean her face. The little girl just sat there not moving and groaned a little. Yuan Yi immediately lessened her strength, and Yang Ke’er sighed in satisfaction like a little piglet.
Su Qian had already started preparing breakfast, and Zhang Xiao Qiang brought Yuan Yi and Yang Ke’er to the open area to practice some moves. They practiced until breakfast was done, and after that, the group made their way back to the chicken farm. He wanted to check on the progress of the weapons. They didn’t lack firearms now that they had chanced upon that stash. However, melee weapons were still good to rely on, and Zhang Xiao Qiang did not feel that he would be accurate with the firearms anyway.
When they reached the chicken farm, the sun wasn’t fully up yet. Zhang Xiao Qiang saw that Shangguan Qiao Yun was hard at work, running around the chicken farm. He had no reaction to her efforts, although she was his in name, she still had her own plans. Hence? She had nothing to do with him since they will part when the time comes.
