guns were fierce weapons that could not be beat. The Thompson machine guns had worked well for the Skulls. The rest of the criminals with the gold, currency, and valuables sped away into the harangue of Charlotte’s city streets. The cars separated and weaved all over town. They rendezvoused at the warehouse. Policemen in cars and vans and trucks came to the warehouse and began a war battle shootout. Two more robbers were killed. The remainder got back in their cars and high tailed it out of there. They had lost their Skull’s Castle hideout. Police secured it putting chains and locks on all doors. Welders and carpenters days later covered all doors and windows with boats, angle iron and sheet metal so never again can anyone have access or use of the building.

This had been a big job. It was a large bank. The loot was an enormous amount. A lot of manpower was needed with a good number of cars. It had been a huge risk. And they had sizeable losses. Gang members had been killed. The warehouse hideout was lost.

The Skulls moved into a three story abandoned office building in a run down industrial section of town. The basement and first floor had storage for their loot. A first floor garage was adequate indoor hidden parking for their cars. It was a good replacement for their warehouse. Their lost members were easily and quickly replaced by other men anxious to join and become a Skull.
