Some people got beat up when robberies happened. This was a fearful and most unhealthy experience. Identification of criminals was most fraught with trouble. It was neither easy nor certain. Truck drivers were highly trained people with special licenses. There was much insurance on them, the rig, and the cargo. Hijacking was common and usually was successful. Women walked about town shopping for groceries in stores for this or that. Most ladies carried purses with cash, check books, cosmetics, cigarettes, identification and driver’s cards, and personal items like medicines and treats like gum and candy. The average thief in the correct location would have not much difficulty napping any woman’s purse and got with any and all the cash she had. This happened a frequently. Sale of illegal drugs, forgeries, car theft, shoplifting, stealing tires, wheels,

and hub caps, items in lawns like lounge furniture and mowers, bicycles, and motorcycles were all to common.

Crimes occurred at many places. Many different kinds of people committed crimes. They were of a varied nature. A decent list of illegal crimes would be the following: arson, assault and battery, bribery, burglary, disorderly conduct, counterfeiting, disturbing the peace, drug possession, manufacturing, sales, and distribution, trespassing, breaking and entering, illegal bars or businesses ran with out a license, illegal possession of a firearm or explosives, harassment, tax evasion, drunk driving, domestic violence, extortion, embezzlement, forgery, fraud, hate crimes, insurance fraud, gambling, money laundering, murder, perjury, prostitution, smuggling, treason, illegal aliens, public intoxication, robbery, rape, sexual assault, shoplifting, solicitation, tax evasion, theft, larceny, looting, criminal conversion, vandalism, mail and wire fraud.
