‘A word?’
‘Only if it’s work-related,’ Lorne cautioned.
‘This Garth’s office?’ David asked as he let himself in, and closed and locked the door behind him. ‘I wish he was here so I could consult with both of you.’
Lorne sighed, removed his glasses and put them in his pocket, and waited tacitly for David to continue.
‘In my opinion we can rule out Ms Algood as a suspect in the murder of Archie Skinner.’
‘Based on which evidence?’
David grimaced. ‘That’s just the problem. There is none- hear me out!’
Lorne had raised his hand in dismissal. ‘All right, I’m listening. But this had better be worth my time. I’m up to my ears as it is.’
‘The problem here is all the things that are not in evidence,’ David told him. ‘Added together, they paint a very clear picture.
‘First off, Ms Algood passed her polygraph with flying colours. I realise this only means that she believes her story, but her story bears a striking similarity to the missing evidence.
‘There wasn’t the least trace from the crime scene on her person. She has neither the intelligence nor the means to have done so thorough a job of it.
