even of its waters, though they were ever still and slow-moving in their course. I remember the dragonflies, damselflies and other insects, their colours iridescent in the bright sun. Living jewels they were, precious to the senses. I remember the wildflowers, redolent of new life, blooming even in winter, which is almost upon us. You may have noticed many varieties growing upon the terraces of the Great Tower of Lund. They came from here. Some who love growing things risked everything to come here in secret."
Lily smiled at this. "I did notice. And I had wondered whether the Marsh flora extended as far as Lund, or whether some related varieties existed there." Her look sobered, and by degrees, her eyes flashed with renewed anger.
"I have decided. We will send the horses and the others to safety, and carry our provisions from here."
As she started into motion, Anest hurried to walk at her side. "Carry our provisions where? What is to be our destination?"
Lily set her jaw, prepared to fight with any obstacle that stood in her way. "At the least, He will not have this place! Not while I have breath in my body! He has slain the Earth Mother and taken my sisters. Now, He will pay!"
"Lily." He said her name quietly, not in protest, but merely to gain her attention, to bring her to a halt, if only for a moment. He took her hand, which was clenched tightly into a fist, worked her fingers free, one by one, then interlaced his own, gently but firmly.
