The Spider's Fly - Page 33/49

It was a beautiful Saturday morning, and several months had past, and the winter holidays were already over. With spring fast approaching, and her teacher still the same, Lindsey knew that things were never going to change. She decided that this time, she was not going to spend her entire weekend doing homework, especially since it wasn’t going to help her in anyway. Lindsey was tired and depressed. She decided that she was going to spend the day working on coming up with a solution. Knowing that she wasn’t going to be able to change her teacher, and the school wasn’t going to put forth anymore effort toward making things better either, Lindsey decided to focus on spending the weekends doing the things that made her happy instead. She spent that entire Saturday thinking about and writing down all of the things that made her happy. The next day, (which was a Sunday), she awoke to a beautiful sunny day. She opened the curtains of her bedroom window just to let the sunshine in, and then she climbed back into bed. As she lay there in bed, thoughts of what she was going to do that day, began racing through her head. Finally she decided that for that day, she would spend her time working on her gymnastics. Lindsey had a great time. She spent the entire day doing flips and backbends and cartwheels in her front yard. As the day was coming to an end, Lindsey headed back inside. It was almost dinner time and Lindsey was starving to death and decided to eat dinner with the rest of the family. Lindsey’s mother was happy to see that she was finally eating and starting to do the normal things in life. She was hopeful that it would last and that Lindsey would become strong enough to overcome all of the abuse. After dinner, Lindsey was very tired and decided to go to bed earlier than usual. The next day as Lindsey awoke for school, she decided that she didn’t want to go. She wasn’t sick or anything, she just wanted to take the day off. Although she knew there was little chance of her mother allowing her to stay home from school without a good reason, she decided that it couldn’t hurt to ask.
