“I can’t believe you are finishing up second grade. Get plenty of rest. Tomorrow, and the entire week, you will be taking tests to see how much you learned this year. Your parents would be so proud of you. I wish they were here…” Uncle Frank’s voice trailed off with a quiver.

We both stood in the middle of the living room, looking down at the brown, tattered carpet. The deafening silence lasted for, what seemed like, an eternity. Long, light, golden brown hair flowed neatly down to mom’s shoulders. Her blue eyes, tan complexion, and beaming, bright smile just lit up the room. His medium build, coal-black hair, green eyes, and grey suit made dad look like a take charge type of person. I wondered what it would be like to live with them. At different times, I would pretend we were going to the beach, or I was riding a roller coaster ride with dad.
