He couldn’t put his finger on it but there was something unusual about her. Was it her her engaging, expressive demeanor - he wasn’t sure but what intrigued him the most was the way her eyes spoke to him. They spoke volumes in comparison to what came from her lips.

“You have nothing to worry about - you’re far from old,” he assured her, “you can’t be more than your mid-thirties.” He complimented her in his usual seriousness.

“Excuse me?” She asked with a dazed look on her face, “didn’t your mother teach you not to ask a woman’s age,” she cautioned him tactfully, “luckily for you, you’re very close,” she lied, thinking that he must be blind and foolish.

“Actually, she did tell me that - to use sir, ma’am and never ask a lady her age. That’s from my years in Texas... I didn’t mean to offend you...” He offered her sincerely.

“It’s rude actually but I’m not offended...so, you’re from Texas?” She sounded surprised, “you don’t have an accent - actually, I would have never guessed."

“I wasn’t there for long but it stuck - see, like right now, from time to time it comes out,” he told her as though he was reprimanding himself, “ accents are like a curse.” He warned her with seasoned confidence.
