Five children signed up for the Children's cookout competition for thirteen year olds and under.. They pulled a slip of paper out of a jar that had the type of food they were be cooking. The instructions was they had to bring the ingredients and utensils when they arrived and be checked out to make sure no cooking items was already cooked.

The bananas had to have the peel on it at checkin., strawberries and other berries had to be whole and still in the carton they came from Any vegies also had to be whole and if they used cheese it also had to be in orginal unopen packing. All of the recieps had to written and if the child was cooking from a recipe that was already known being used then they had to either take away one ingredient or add their own touches The children competing in the cook off came from various towns and places. Their parents or guardian had to sign approval papers for them to compete in the event.

One was a boy from the boys home at the lake, One was a seventh grade girl from Winters Haven, her brother a sixth grader from the same school, a ten year old girl from the indian village of Kickapaw, and The assistant fire chief Damien and Rosemary seven year old Nolan. They couldn't have any help from another contestant or any adult at the gathering Their cook out competition was just as grueling as the barbecue contest.
