​The police traced the letter back to a gang named The Mighty Henchmen. Their logo was If you have a buck it will be ours no matter what we have to do to get it. It consisted of men and women of all ethenic groups. Rumors were their attorney was Gene Elliot the brother of Judge Harold Elliot. Every case filed against them came in front of Judge Elliot and he always found a reason to let them go saying the prosucuting attorney did something wrong with their paper work or told tthe witness against them had been shown pictures of them to identifiy

​One of the officers during the investigation also heard that the judge knew all about them and was even involved in it. The gang hung out at the judge's farm. He got enough evidence on video tape to maybe get a warrent but how powerful the judge was they needed concrete evidence. one of the volunteer police office had a cousin who was a ranch hand at a famous thoroughbred farm in Kentucky horse country and had been in the intelligence division in the service and had recieved a dishonorable discharge in the military for hitting his commanding officer who had ties in Washington DC

​His current boss had also been in the same unit with him and made statements that their commanding officer was the devil himself and let him go to investigate the judge and when the judge asked for a reference he wrote that he was a hot head and had threaten one of his co-workers. His boss labeled him unhireable. Bryan told the judge that his old boss was horrible and he didn't know how to treat his horses.
