“Oh my God!” Ricky gasped.

Betty cleared her throat, “If there’s anything I can do to make up for my mistakes let me know but don’t throw me out. I have nowhere to go.”

“It’s always about you, now you want me to accommodate you because you have nowhere to go. Where are your boyfriends?”

“Flora please….”

“What did you do when I told you that one of your boyfriends tried to rape me?” she wiped tears from her eyes with her free hand. “Let me refresh your memory, you locked me up in the basement and said I was a good for nothing liar.” Flora’s head began to pound, she threw her palms to the side of her face.

She never understood why her mother did the things she did or why she was so distant with her. Betty had always been unpredictable and Flora never pretended to understand why she was that way. Betty has never been a mother or a wife to Brock, all she ever did was go shopping and watch TV all day. Betty always wore designer clothes, shoes and carried the most expensive handbags. To her, marriage was a convenience and had Flora to please Brock.

“What now?” Angie said, pulling Flora from the past.

“I’m leaving.”
