The city had it's first murder ever. It was blamed on one of the local indian men. He was sent to Chicago to stand trial. The judge deemed he wouldn't get a fair trial in Skylar because he was popular with the city's residents. He was convicted and sent to prison for many many moons.The two local churches was torched. Everyone knew the men who had done it but they all came up with witnesses who stated they were at least sixty miles away at a reunion at the time of the churches burning down.
By then Darin and Monica had moved into an apartment together. She recalled that he smelt like diesel gasoline and smoke. She went to college to one of her professors and confided in her. Professor Collins advised Monica to end the realationship. Then she was informed that Darin had told Monica that she was his girl and nobody's elses and it would stay that way till she died and if she ever wanted out that was the only way she would get out . Professor Collins advised her to leave the city and she would help her..
The next evening Professor Collins had a box inside of her room labeled hurricane disaster relief. She pulled Monica aside . Together they planned a way for Monica to get away. Monica didn't want to leave her beloved city but she had no other choice since Darin had been so upset with her for even mentioning how he smelt that night and threatened her life with his gun. She started to gather clothes for the relef donation box. Darin went to the college and saw the box and the items that Monica had put in it. Professor Collins informed him it was a class project and the class would be going down to Texas and hand out the donations to the organization there to help feed the community. Doctors and nurses in town was going down to provide health care for the victims of the hurricane and would be back in town in a week
