Tha forest was green and humid, with tall trees of variant heights whose extended branches met each other like guardians securing mortals in its centre. Beniandu marched under the trees on the soggy carpet grass on the floor of the forest. On top of the trees, scampering monkeys dashed from one branch to another howling at one another, while lumbering badgers scrambled for groundnuts underneath the shoulder-length greeneries ahead of her. They scampered when she approached the greeneries.
