By his countenance, Lakshmi guessed that something went wrong between them, Baskar and Shyamala.
Sivasankar requested them to take supper in his residence but Baskar refused to take meals but urged his parents indirectly to leave for home.
This surprised Sivasankar and suspected that there arose a tiff between Baskar and Shyamala. So he called her personally and enquired her of the reason for the tiff.
Shyamala revealed the entire secret to Sivasankar and eventually told her father,” The whole family is arch liars. Out of sympathy only, Lakshmi agreed to give Baskar in marriage to me. Baskar is the liar of liars. Even God cannot change him. Whenever he opens his mouth, a wad of lies peeps out of his mouth. “
Sivasankar was shocked to know that her birth secret was leaked out. But luckily her daughter didn’t believe it. So he wanted to confirm it. He asked his daughter,” Do you believe that you are an orphan and I am your foster father?”
Shyamala wept and began to sob. “What a terrible question you darted, dad! Am I credulous like Lakshmi? What a big lie your friend told his wife to make her believe his words and convince her in view of my marriage with Baskar!”
Sivasankar released a sigh of relief. He asked directly:” Shyamala, if you don’t want to marry Baskar, , I can drop the matter. What do you say?”
