With a soft knock at the door, Cassandra entered the room slowly, so as to not alarm Jane. She had been wanting to talk to her sister about the events of the day, and just knowing that Jane had come home so quickly only left one to suppose that there had been disappointment in the air. "Sister, you have not spoken a word since you arrived home. What of Mr. Lefroy? And his aunt?" she asked hastily. "What of Mr. Tom Lefroy you ask? Absolutely nothing Cassandra. I shall never speak of that man again."

She again bowed her head and continued her writing.

"I am sorry. I should never have pushed you for the meeting." Cassandra said quietly. "No bother sister, there is just nothing to speak of." Jane was abrupt.

"Very well then. If you should need anything, please do come and fetch me. " Jane nodded, not looking up from her desk. Cassandra rose from her seat, and quickly left the room. Jane felt guilt at the way she had spoken to her sister, but could not help her anxiety. Cassandra, helpful as she was, just could not understand Jane's misery at the situation. How she had wished now, and the many years previous that she had not ever encountered Mr. Lefroy. Because try as she may, she knew that she would always think of him, despite her best efforts not to.
