Her Atthai (Addressed for her Dad’s sister) came and said,” Maya, Come and sit here.”

She raised her eyebrows and asked, “Are you sure that this dress is okay or should I change to something else?”

Atthai then dragged her and made her to sit on the chair and said,”Pandit, You can start the vrutham ritual now.”

Maya rolled her eyes and asked,” Vrutham? (Means Fasting)”

Vrutham is a wedding ritual formally to begin with prayers to seek blessings from their ancestors and God. A scared yellow thread will be tied on the wrists of the bride and the groom which also signifies that they must not leave the wedding place also believed to ward off the evil spirits.

Maya thought, “These people are asking me to starve for a whole day? How can they expect me to good look in evening then? God! Please send Varun here as he can only save me.”

Aishwerya was able to grasp Maya’s thoughts so she said,” Even mappillai have to fast today. By this time the ritual would have begun there.”

Maya yawned seeing her mother and sat quietly while everyone around her was busy explaining or make fun.

At Varun’s home, the same ritual started. For the groom it signifies the end of his ‘Brahmacharya’(Bachelorhood) and seeking permission from his guru(here it is his father, Padmanabhan) to enter ‘Gruhastha’(Married life) stage.
