The Anthrax Scare - Page 20/46

"You know I remember that the times I did get off you were hardly ever around!"

"Here we go. I've told more than once I'm sorry for missing your birthday last year."

"Right because going to Vegas with your buddies was more important than spending time with your girlfriend."

"I apologized didn't I with cards and flowers?"

"Well, Hallmark always said it better than you."

"Whatever. I--"

I knew I couldn't take much longer arguing with him, Pete and Jeff would be at the apartment soon. "--You know how important this job is to me. And I need you to STOP calling before I get fired. I've got to go. I'm moved on so you should too."

"Fine. But after he dumps you don't come crying to me. I offered to take you back. I've got plenty of women, waiting on me; in fact I wasn't always alone when you weren't around."

"Screw you, Bryan. I can't believe I wasted so much time with you," I said angrily as I hung up before he could respond. I collected myself and then headed back to Keith's station.

"You okay?" He looked at me and I knew he could tell I was upset.

I nodded. "Yeah, he won't be calling again."

"Did you threaten to beat the crap out of him?" He joked and I laughed quietly.

"No, I should have. I told him I'd moved on and he should too."

He grinned. "Good to know." He leaned closer and reached for a pen. "So, we're still going out tomorrow then?"

I nodded. "Yeah, definitely." I handed him the pen and winked at him.

The desk phone rang and he answered. "We're ready."

James came out of his office and down the stairs. "We have live audio feed, Amy put it on Comm."

Amy nodded. Keith and I put the ear pieces in our ears so we could hear everything that happened as Jeff and Pete carried out the operation. James and Amy did the same. "Keep them up to date. Did you send them the infrared images?"

"Yes," Keith answered.

"Good."

"We're going in," Pete's voice echoed in my ear.

"You're going to have to figure a way in without making too much noise. It's better if you can get in there undetected so we can take them by surprise." James said to Pete, as he walked over to us and glanced at the building schematics and infrared images on Keith's screen.
