Hawthorn this week."

"What did you both talk about?"

"I am so glad to be home, Maddie." Hayley and Maddie embraced.

"I am thrilled to have you back. This house was too quiet while you were away."

"I will have to tell you all about my trip after dinner."

Maddie searched Cedric's face for clues. "I trust things went as expected."

Mr. Lawrence nodded. Maddie smiled and gave an undetectable sigh of relief.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to come across as skeptical, it's just that it's not everyday you spend time with a ship filled with men and cargo."

"That shipload of men as you call them, is absolutely wonderful. They are the nicest group of men I have ever met."

Hayley giggled. "I suppose it's the only group of men I've ever met."

"I will draw your bath since dinner will be ready in an hour."

Maddie took Hayley's bag and began climbing the stairs.

"Oh, Maddie, I do want to tell you of one person in particular. Remind me to do so at dinner, will you?"

Maddie nodded, glanced at Cedric, and she continued up the stairs.
