His parents had been optimistic about their son but now wondered if he would ever be ready to take over the business and concluded that he had a long way to go before reaching full maturity.
They were glad his grandparents were not around to see this awful situation. They would have been saddened.
His parents gave him an ultimatum: He would continue to go to college and still receive a monthly allowance until he was ready to take over the business, or he would be completely on his own with no financial assistance from them. He chose the former.
It was just a matter of time before the rumors started to spread like wild weeds throughout the community. Individuals from all social circles were chitchatting that a beautiful foreign woman ripped off Jamo. Many found it quite amusing that a female would be the one to outfox him and saw it as payback for his treatment of others.
The campus was buzzing with overtones that he was hiding his money to avoid paying taxes.
Some went so far and said, "There was never any trust fund; he made up the whole story to be popular with the women and to be part of the elite inner circle."
Many women on campus did not want to have anything to do with him. Perhaps they were jealous. None of them got his money or that classy diamond ring.
His closest friends were now disassociating themselves from him. He became the abandoned man on campus and the laughing stock of the community. When the money was gone, so were his so-called friends.
Only time will tell if Jamo learned anything from this horrific experience.
