The Senator's Vote - Page 32/36

I put the computer in the backseat and shut the trunk. Grabbing my jacket I threw it over the back of the front seat. I sat in the front seat and dug in my pocket for the keys then drove the SUV back onto the road and down the path that led to gate. I leaned over and opened the door for Keith.

Keith slowly slid into the seat and winced as he did do. He reclined his seat and then shut the door. I leaned over and kissed him softly.

"Is the painkiller helping?" I asked.

"A little how's your hand?"

"Not bothering me too much." I looked at him. "Are you going to be okay?"

"Of course, I'm a Marine, built tough remember?" He reached over and placed his hand on my face, with his thumb he stroked my cheek. "I'll be fine, don't worry, sweetheart."

"I know...it's just I was worried when you said there was a bomb and then when the explosion happened…I just kept hoping you had made it out in time. I was scared as hell as I ran to the building and then looked around. I was so relieved when I saw you." I turned off the dirt road and back onto New Hampshire Road.

"I know, I was worried too, but there was no way I wasn't going to make it to our wedding. I got out of there as fast as I could." He winked at me.

"That was a close call though."

"That definitely was a close call. That went horribly wrong really fast; Henderson had to have known we were there."

"I agree. I'm just glad you're okay."

"Thanks, honey." He shifted in his seat and leaned back.

"Just rest, we'll be back at CTC in no time. Kim can take that x-ray and then if need be you can borrow that helicopter."

He chuckled. "So, you've taken it into consideration?"

"Sure, one question though. Do you know how to fly a helicopter?"

"Umm...no, but how hard can it be?"

I laughed. "I guess we'll have to find out."

"You know me I'm up for anything."

I laughed again and stole a glance at him before returning my focus to the road. "So you have it all planned out then?"

"I told you I was bored yesterday." He winked at me.

My phone started ringing so I handed it over to Keith. "Hello?"
