The Senator's Vote - Page 5/36

"We're ready. Let's do this and get it over with."

"Yeah, let's hope it won't take long."

I sat down at the computer as Keith got up. He undid the cuff buttons and then rolled up the sleeves of his shirt. His grey button shirt with black slacks was a match to my black skirt and black v-neck blouse. I continued watching him as he put the ear piece in. Regaining focus, I set up the comm. He squeezed my shoulder and then walked into the other room just as Jeff brought Michael in.

"Sit him down," Keith said.

Jeff pulled out the chair and Michael sat down. He placed his hands on the table and Jeff cuffed him to it. Michael was a young man, probably in his late twenties with short blond hair and dark green eyes. He was tall and lanky; he was wearing his chauffeur uniform which was pressed and immaculate.

Jeff walked out of the room and placed a plastic bag full of Michael's belongings on the table beside me. Rummaging through it, I took out the phone. "Give that to Amy, please."

"You got it," Jeff said as he took the phone and then walked out of the room. I turned my attention back to Keith and Michael.

Keith sat down at the opposite end of the table. "All right, Michael we can do this the hard way or the easy way. Either way you're going to tell me what I want to know. If you cooperate it will only make things easier."

I zoomed in with the camera on Michael's face. It was more than obvious he was scared. "Look whatever you want to know, I'll tell you. I don't want any trouble."

"It's a little late for that. You're looking at a long jail sentence."

He broke a sweat as he gulped. "I didn't do anything!"

"Taking part in a plot to assassinate a Senator is hardly nothing, Michael."

"No, no! All I agreed to do was drive a different route, that's it. He just said he was going to scare the Senator."

"You can't be that naive. Who is HE?" Keith leaned forward, slamming his fist on the table. Michael flinched.

"Ok, look I have a few gambling debts, I owe people. People who are quite angry that I haven't paid them. A few weeks ago a guy called me and asked if I wanted to make some money, it was enough to pay off those debts. He told me all I had to do was drive the Senator a different route, pull into a dead end road and wait."
