The Hostage - Page 19/28

He took my hand and we went out to the balcony. I looked up at the stars.

"The sky is so clear, and the stars are so bright here," I mused as I leaned against the balcony and looked up at the dark sky.

"Yeah." Keith walked over to a telescope that was standing in the corner of the balcony. He looked through it, readjusted it, took out a piece of paper from his breast pocket, and readjusted it again. I watched and wondered what he was doing.

"Keith, what are you doing, baby?"

He quickly put the paper back in his pocket and scratched his face. "C'mere and I'll show you."

I walked over beside him.

"Okay, look at the fourth star in the center."

I leaned over the telescope and found the star. "I see it."

Keith put his arms around my waist. "That, Mandy is your star."

"My star?"

"Yep. Amanda Sheppard's star, see?" I turned around in his arms and he handed me the paper. I glanced at it.

"Oh my god, sweetheart. You had a star named after me!"

"Yeah." He grinned.

I stuck the paper back in his pocket. "Just when I think you couldn't be more romantic, you do something so amazing."

He took my hands in his. "Well, I love you, Mandy. I would do anything for you. You mean the world to me and this is just a small way to show it." He smiled that smile that melted my heart every time.

I hugged him. "I love you too, so much. You mean everything to me . . ." A few tears escaped and ran down my face.

"What is it?"

"Sometimes I worry." I rested my forehead against his.

"About what?" He asked concerned.

"That what we have is too good to last . . . that we will be torn apart against our will and that one day I'll wake up and you won't be there. That scares me because I don't what I would without you. I know I couldn't live without you." I looked down but he tilted my face up.

I looked at him and he caressed my cheek. "I worry about that too, especially because of what we do. But always remember that no matter what I love you. Our love will last because we are meant to be together." He paused. "But, you know what helps me not to worry?"
