A Heart to Mend - Page 113/185

Gladys fell back on the sofa as Edward strode towards her with an intent look in his eyes. That look always got her heated up and it was no different now.

As their plane ascended from the John F. Kennedy airport Sunday evening, Gladys released a sigh of pure joy. The last two weeks had been the happiest time of her life. She looked down at the statue of liberty and recalled their trip to it the previous day. They‘d taken Edward‘s meetings into account when booking the flexible three days ticket before leaving the London. He‘d been a little disappointed that they were unable to book monument passes online but they‘d managed to get one from the Battery Park kiosk on the morning of the outing by showing the pre printed online tickets.

For the first time in her life, she‘d gotten on a ferry. She and Edward had left their hotel as early as eight in the morning in order to catch the first ferry out to Liberty Island. They got good seats on the upper deck and were able to get the best views of the Manhattan skyline as they moved out. On the chill of the water, she thanked God she‘d brought a coat though the weather had not been too bad since they arrived. She wore sky-blue jeans and a knit maroon sweater under the red plaid jacket with a pair of comfortable heeled boots. They also packed a picnic to eat on Ellis Island after the tour of the monument.

Getting off the ferry, the statue of liberty was quite a sight and she‘d thanked Edward profusely for the chance to see it up close. With their crown passes they headed straight for the queue into the monument. Edward had a large backpack containing some documents he didn‘t want to leave in the hotel room so that had to put that into a locker before they could enter the monument. The security was intense, even more advanced than the one they‘d gone through at the various airports they‘d gone through in the past two weeks. The only thing they got to take inside was Edward‘s camera. He‘d insisted because he said he intended to compare her beauty to Lady Liberty‘s.

After that, they got into yet another line to take an organized picture in front of the Statue of Liberty. They had been kissing in that one. Then they climbed a lot of steps to get to the monument viewing area and then walked in. Inside the statue, there were even more fantastic photo opportunities. There was the old torch that had been replaced by the newer model and they also got someone to take a picture of both of them with a close up of the lady liberty‘s face replica. The museum was equally interesting and there they got the audio tour and hit the stairs going up.
