Mr. Odusote luxuriated in the soft leather of his tall black executive-style chair. He spun himself away from the desk and toward the window of his fifth floor office. They were housed in one of the state liaison buildings lining Ahmadu Bello Way, and so he watched the morning traffic snake alongside the beach. He still couldn‘t believe how things had worked out. He recalled how last year he tagged behind Edward Bestman for the longest time, taking all those brush-offs. Maybe if Edward had listened then and gone into business with him he wouldn‘t be facing a takeover bid. Mr. Odusote laughed; it was nice to be in the driving seat for a change.
He stood up when Chief Okrika walked in. “Good morning.”
“Morning Mr. Odusote, how are things?”
Mr. Odusote joined him at the coffee table in a corner of the large room. He waited while the older man settled himself on a nearby couch before he spoke.
“Everything has been going as planned. My person called me last night to confirm that Edward Bestman is back in the country and knows about the takeover bid. He‘s very angry about it.”
Chief Okrika laughed. “I‘m not in the business of making Edward happy. You never told me who your informant is?”
“I really don‘t think you need to know…”
“You‘re right. What matters is that we get correct information and use it to our advantage. And we‘ve both always delivered.”
“Of course Chief, I can never forget that it was through your agents that we were able to obtain the twenty percent of Bestman stock last week. That was a master stroke of genius.”
“Always trust Chief. I had that ace card up my sleeve for over a month. I had to choose the best time to strike.”
“I‘ll never doubt you.” Mr. Odusote replied
He‘d been approached by people who worked for the industrialist about two months ago with an offer he couldn‘t refuse. Chief Okrika had come across his proposal and said he wanted to know how far he‘d gone in his discussions with Edward and Bestman Group. He‘d gone for the initial meeting flattered that such a man would want to do business with him without putting him through hoops. He‘d found out that Chief Okrika had intentions of taking over the company and wanted someone motivated to be his coordinator.
