“How is Edward, did you leave him at home?” She asked.
Gladys sat back on her own chair. “Edward is back to work…” her voice tailed off and Ola seemed to notice instantly that everything wasn‘t as they should be.
“What‘s the problem, Gladys? You don‘t sound as happy as you did when we spoke on Monday.”
Gladys sighed heavily and slumped back in her seat staring at her hands. She‘s been angry on Monday but now she was just hurt and confused. She‘d stopped trying to contact Edward while one part of her mind kept hoping he would call at any moment.
Ola straightened up with a hand on her chair arm. “Gladys what‘s wrong?” You don‘t look as happy as you sounded…”
Gladys had known this would not be an easy discussion and tried to tread carefully. “Ola, it‘s too early to say much but I need your advice.” Ola nodded encouragement. “Edward‘s company is on the brink of a takeover and he blames me. He thinks I sold those shares he gave to me…”
“Impossible! You couldn‘t have done that.”
Gladys raised her face in gratitude. “Thank you so much, you‘re a wonderful person.” She‘d needed to hear that. Thank God she came to Ola. She dragged her chair closer and continued in a lower tone, “Edward has all this evidence he thinks proves I must be involved in some way…”
“What is he thinking? He knows you…”
“I spoke with my aunt earlier yesterday evening and she says I should be patient with him. Honestly, I feel like breaking open his head and putting some sense in there.”
Ola laughed along with her. “I can see why we need to cut him some slack. I mean he must be under a lot of pressure. I hope his directors and shareholders are behind him? I‘m guessing he doesn‘t want to be acquired or sell his shares to the highest bidder.”
“Bestman Group is like his baby; he definitely won‘t let go. And I don‘t blame him. Especially now I think I know those who are behind it all. They must have framed me and are working overtime to undermine Edward and everything in his life.”
“What? Are you sure?” Ola exclaimed. “Have you told him?”
