“Yes, how is it going? Do you have any news for me?”
“Chief, who told... how did you find out?” Mr. Odusote asked in an excited voice.
“Find out what? What are you…nobody told me anything.”
“Chief, the private seven percent shares are on the market!”
“This is fantastic news!” Chief Okrika got to his feet.
“Yes! The owner has been contacted by the brokers, and they‘ve obtained permission to sell off the shares. In actual fact, I just got back to my office from their lawyers.”
“That is very good of you. Well done. But I know you brokers; they will probably want us to go head to head with Bestman Group so as to get the maximum gain.”
“They claim the other party doesn‘t know of this yet.”
“You mean Edward isn‘t aware? His people don‘t know they shares are on the market?”
“That was what the brokers said. They decided to call us first because they feel we have the better no-strings-attached offer which their client may prefer.”
“This is great news. As soon as I drop, I‘ll make sure I do all that needs to be done.”
“Chief, I hope the terms you promised me still apply?”
“Of course,” Chief Okrika assured immediately. “In addition, there‘ll be a bonus for you after we‘ve sealed the deal with the brokers. I reward those who are good to me.”
“Thanks, Chief. I hope things continue to go our way.”
Both men laughed and then Chief Okrika pushed a button to end the call.
He had pure satisfaction all over his face as he punched in his other broker‘s number into the phone. He gave the man details on how to liaise with Mr. Odusote in the purchase of the shares. Next he called his lawyer to see to it that the takeover proceedings of Bestman Group continued and could be done in such a way that Edward would step down. With the new shares, he would hold over forty percent, and if he could buy more, then he would own more than Edward. Even without more shares, he could seize control of four seats on the board and become Chairman. He laughed gleefully and rubbed his hands together.
