Copper laughed. "I will have that drink and your phone number, please madam."

"How long are you going to be in town? Copper asked.

"I'm here one more night and taking a flight out the next morning." Jannie answered.

"Have dinner with me tomorrow night? Copper asked.

"That will be very nice, darling. Here's my hotel phone number. I must be going. It was nice talking to you." Jannie answered.

That was how she met Copper Baskins.

Copper was starting to complain about not having enough time together. I told him when I met him that I was a travel nut. He seemed to agree at the time with our arrangement. We knew from the beginning that it was a long distance romance and they're hard to keep going. I do care for him. I must admit I haven't put much effort into the partnership. It's not like I need to make more money; but I like what I do. I'll have to get him to understand.

"Let me take a look at my calendar before I call him. Hmmm, oh my! It will be two months before I can get to Connecticut or be at home for him to come down."

"I know that his is going to be quite upset and probably hang up the phone one me. I definitely cannot tell him I'm going to New York this weekend with my girlfriends. Well, let me call and get it over with."

Jannie Marie picked up the phone and dialed Copper's number at work.

"Hello, my sweet." Copper answered on his private line.

"Hello darling. How are you? Jannie Marie asked.

"I'm doing okay sugar. I was going to take a chance and surprise you this weekend, but there's a change in my business plans." Copper replied.

"Oh honey, that was so nice." Jannie Marie stated.

"I care about my long distance honey." Copper replied.

"I'm glad you do darling." Jannie Marie replied.

"Look I have to go back to the meeting and I will call you soon." Copper replied.

"Okay honey." Jannie Marie replied. Copper hung up the phone.

"Oh my, that was a close one." Jannie Marie exhaled.

Jannie Marie walked over to the closets. She pushes the button for the doors to slide open. She pushes the button again to close the doors. She decides that she wouldn't add another thing to her luggage. She'll buy something new in New York.

Jannie Marie thought about Copper again. He is such a charming man. I didn't have to make him angry this night. Tomorrow I will be in New York. I will not call him until I get back.
