Man Up - Page 144/268

"Man her nose is too big and her eyes are too small and close together. She looks like a one-eye Cyclop."

"Since when did you ever look at their faces?" Avery asked surprised that he would care. He picked up his bottle of water and took some healthy gulps from it. He had stopped drinking beer about an hour ago, hoping that he would be leaving around this time.

"Well what about the lady with the twists in her hair?" Jayden turned but didn't see who he was talking about.

"Over there, dressed in red near the jukebox talking to the waitress." Jayden looked and then he saw her.

"Eh… she looks kind of short and her legs are too skinny." He protested and Avery couldn't help but giving him a glare.

"Dude you can't even see her legs… For real, what's eating you?" He demanded.

"Nothing…" Jayden denied.

"Nope it's something… Cuz usually your one-time attraction and one-man stand has zero requirements except a hole in the middle. What gives? Why so picky tonight?"

"Nothing… It's nothing man…" He continued to protest. Abruptly Avery jumped up from his stool.

"Okay whatever… If you're not going to talk then I've got somewhere better to be." He said as he turned to leave.

"Wait… Okay, ok I'm talking… I'm talking…" Jayden finally broke. Avery looked at his watch; ten forty-five.

"Just a second… Lemme call Nita."

"Damn man, why every time we go out you have to call Nita… That bitch has you on locked down." Before he knew it his best friend was clutching him by the throat and had his body trapped between him and the bar.

"Man you even think to call my girl a bitch ever again, there's going to be trouble between you and me. We won't be friends." Avery words hissed from his mouth in a deadly promise. Jayden dropped his eyes. He knew he was wrong. He knew he was dead wrong for trying to hurt his friend because he was hurting.

"I'm sorry man… I didn't mean it." Avery gave him another hard looked as his jawbone flexed. He then let go of his collar and pushed him hard into the bar slightly knocking the wind out of his lungs.

"I'll be back… Lemme holla at my girl and tell her I'm going to be late."
