Man Up - Page 173/268

"…When I feel

I am

Losing sight

Of you…

I run…

To the mirror

And look to you

Your presence

Is always there

God

It is in you that

I am…"

The young lady finished her poem recital to the snapping fingers of the listening audience. As she exited the stage, there were nods of approval for her deeply spoken poem. Jayden sat in the back listening to the people getting up sharing their poems, lyrics, raps and words of wisdom. He was sipping on some cranberry juice, wishing that he had the alcohol to mix in it.

After work he had done as his mother suggested and taken Mr. Ellis to the police station, where a nursing home attendant had only moments ago filed a missing person report. He didn't stay waiting to make sure that Mr. Ellis would be safely picked up and returned back to the home. He was afraid that if he stayed around, he would only become more and more involved in the man's life. He figured it was best if he left everything anonymous and just let it be said that a Good Samaritan had brought Mr. Ellis back.

"…try, try… and try again…

When it seems

Like

You are

Losing ground…

Step back

And

Get out of the way

Buckle up

Hold on tight

God has taken over…"

The young man finished with a standing ovation of snapping fingers. Jayden doesn't know why, but listening to the man's words he suddenly had the urge to cry. What the hell was the matter with him? He had to get out of here. He needed to get away. He needed to get laid or suck on a nice big fat piece of juicy pussy to ease the restlessness in his soul. He needed comfort and the fastest way of getting it was by getting laid; the quicker the better. Abruptly he got up and walked quickly out of the small room that the House of Conscious had deemed the spoken word café.

Mia watched from the side as Jayden was making a hasty break from the room. He seemed a little upset. Without thinking she ran after him, only to have been momentarily stopped when Lacy caught her by her arm.

"Where are you going?" He asked.

"I'll be back." She said as she broke free from his grasp.

Jayden made his way out the door and into the parking lot as he strolled down his list of contacts in his cell phone directory.

"Hell… who can I call?" He questioned out loud seeing that nothing had changed with his directory. No females on standby waiting for his call for some pity and comfort sex. That meant that he would have to go clubbing to pick up some fresh meat.
