"Okay, call your dad." He told her releasing a heavy sigh. Mia was surprised by his words. No man had ever agreed to meet with her father. However Jayden was so ready to be with her, that he was willing to suffer meeting her father and getting his permission.
"Are you sure?" He didn't say anything only nodded his head and then she pulled out her cell phone making the call.
"Hi dad it's me…" She began with her heart in her throat. She was sure that Jayden could hear its loud thumping against her chest. She cleared her throat.
"Of nothing is the matter…" she told him and then paused as she bit at her inner cheek trying to figure out how to phrase her next words.
"Oh… Of… I have... of… Ahem… I mean there's someone that wants to meet you." She finally said and she knew that her father would know what she meant.
"Yea daddy I'm sure… Okay, we'll be there in a few minutes…" She said just before hanging up. She put her phone back into her purse and then turned to Jayden.
"Okay, he said to come on." Jayden nodded his head as he took the car out of park, put on his signal and merged back into traffic.
Arriving at Mia's house, Jayden wiped his sweaty palms against his jeans as Mia opened the door and led the way in. At the time it had seemed like a good idea, but now he was having second thoughts. But he knew he had reached the point of no return and he wasn't about to punk out now. Entering the house, they could hear the sounds of the television as her father was watching a late night movie.
"Daddy I'm home…" she called out as they walked from the foyer into the living room. Jayden saw the typical couch, chairs and recliner. Mia saw her father's feet as he sat leaning back in his recliner. Hearing her voice he picked up the remote and turned the TV off and then flipped a switch and his recliner instantly was in the upright position. Then the man stood and Jayden could see his face clearly.
"Skip?" He looked from Mia to Skip and then back to her again as she went and stood by his side.
"Daddy, this is the young man that I was telling you about…" she said and Jayden couldn't hide his surprise from seeing the person who he had believed was his arch rivalry was actually her father.
