"Where oh where is that ambulance," She mused aloud as panic was settling into her bones.
"One… two… three…" She repeated as she was one molecule away from having a holy-ghost breakdown if God didn't do something quick. BOOM-BOOM!
"Finally," Marla breathed a sigh of relief at hearing the paramedics banging on her apartment door. As quickly as she could, she gathered her son into her arms and ran to the door.
After they arrived and took over Marla then allowed herself to fall apart. She sat off to the side in a small tearful heap watching as the paramedics anxiously worked to save her son. How would she forgive herself for killing her son?
"No he can't die," she whispered under her breath as she dropped down on her knees in a prayer's kneel.
"Oh God please save my baby. Oh God please don't take my baby… I'm sorry God… I'm sorry… God… Oh God please hear my voice… Oh God, no… Please God it was me. It was my entire fault… Take me…" She prayed unaware that her voice had risen.
"Mother calm down… Please, otherwise we'll have to remove you." One of the paramedics warned her.
"I know it's hard ma'am… We're doing the best we can…" He comforted her.
"Save my baby… Okay? Promise me you'll save my baby…" She pleaded as she held onto the young man's jacket desperately. Her eyes were swollen with fat tears that chased after each other running down her face competing with the mucous and salvia that dripped from her nose and mouth. Her hair looked like a hot-matted mess from the innumerable times of her wracking her fingers through it and pulling it by the roots in her desperation.
"Oh God, don't take my baby away from me please." She tearfully moaned in the background as the paramedic held her back as she watched the other two medics administering oxygen to her son.
"Mother, we're going to need you to calm down." The paramedic told her. Marla knew he was right. Nodding her head that she understood, she took some deep breaths and wiped at the snot and tears that were running down her face. Involuntarily her hand shaking hand covered her trembling lips as she attempted to silence her sobs.
"How long was he under?" He finally asked.
"I-I- I'm not sure… I fell asleep…" She felt herself tearing up at that admission. If Jayden didn't make it; it would be her fault. She couldn't live if something happened to him, but if something happened to her and it was her fault- she felt that she would have to kill herself. She knew that she could never forgive herself for being selfish for wanting a few hours of sleep.
