Whisper In The Wind - Page 125/137

"Caitlin," Garrett whispered. "Do you want to stay tonight?"

"Yes, but I won't." She sat up and looked into his warm, lovable face that was full of strength and love. Her insides stirred as she spoke her words. "I love you and can't wait to be with you, but not tonight. I'd like to wait until a night when all we concentrate on is us. Do you mind?"

"When you put it that way I could wait forever."

"I won't make us wait that long." Caitlin kissed him with passion yet deep abiding love. She loved his patient and understanding ways. Their life together would be nothing less than magical.

Caitlin looked at Garrett's watch. "I should go. Grandma needs to know that all is fine. She's been so worried believing that my knowing the truth will hurt me. Why don't you come with me and share our news?"

They kissed again and Garrett said, "Thank you for coming into my life, Caitlin. Let's go."

The ring shone in the moonlight and she could not stop admiring it. It astounded her to be engaged to the only man she ever loved. She held the letter close to her. "I am the luckiest woman on earth."

Not even one step inside the door and Rachel was hugging her. "Are you okay?" She looked her over from head-to-toe. "Scott stopped by on his way out of town and told me everything. I knew you were with Garrett so I didn't call, but young lady, you scared the bejeebers out of me. Don't do it again. This old heart can't take it."

Caitlin crinkled her nose as she bit her lower lip. "Then I guess we shouldn't tell you the rest of the news." She elbowed Garrett.

"You're right, Caitlin. We don't want to be responsible for any ill-health."

"What happened?" Rachel asked her eyes wide, as if expecting horrible news. Caitlin flashed the engagement ring to which Rachel's shrieks and wails woke the dead. "I knew it. I didn't know when, but I knew it would happen." She looked at Garrett and said, "I was worried I'd have to take a stick to you and knock some sense into you. Let me look at that," she said taking Caitlin's hand and gushing over the ring.

They laughed and cried and danced through the house. "We have plans, sweets. Any ideas on what type of wedding you want? What about your dress?" The gleam in Caitlin's eyes had Rachel curious. "What?"
