Dance With the Wind - Page 50/108

Without a word or glance, Megan stood and moved away. How does he know what is in my head? How do I let go when his feelings remain nameless? Look at him, a voice whispered into her heart. Let him read your thoughts. "It's not that simple," she whispered and took a step.

He lightly touched her arm and she quivered. "Don't leave," he said, in a voice that reminded her of the cottonwood whispering in the breeze.

Taking a deep breath, she faced the man who held her heart. A heart that beat faster each time she saw him. No longer afraid, she looked deep into his eyes so he could find the path to her heart and soul.

His large, soft hand caressed her cheek as he moved closer. Megan tilted her head, as did Colby. When their lips touched, her heart exploded. The kiss was the key that unlocked her heart. She returned his kiss, realizing this man was worth the risk of heartache.

They pulled back, smiling. "Thank you, Megan, for everything. I am glad I made this trip and met you." His smile filled every void she had in her body. "Until now I never realized how much I missed this place or my grandparents. Thank you again." He squeezed her hands and she hoped he never let go.

"You're welcome." Though he spoke wonderful words, a question hung in the air. She hesitated, but then asked, "Are you staying a while or heading back to Florida?"

"I'm staying…for a while." The devastating grin had Megan biting her lip and trying to keep extra color from settling on her face. It proved difficult with the realization of seeing Colby daily. Her heart skipped a beat. She could never have imagined a better ending to an already miraculous day.

As they returned to the ranch, a peaceful silence blanketed them. They needed no words. Their comfort level was beyond description, like most things at the ranch.

"Would you like to stay for a bit?" Megan asked when they reached the ranch.

"Thanks, but not tonight. You need rest and I promised my grandmother I would stop back. She baked apple pie, my favorite. I'll see you tomorrow." He kissed her forehead and journeyed back into the woods.

Before turning in for the evening, Megan strolled around the ranch and thought about the day. "Gray Cloud and Colby are talking. Rose Megan Watson surprised us all. She's the spittin' image of Tracy with red hair and green eyes, and she has Charlie's smile. I hope the Circle M treats her well. Plus, I found the one man with whom I want to share my world."
