Dance With the Wind - Page 92/108

Opening her eyes, Megan looked around, surprised by the scene. "What happened?" she mumbled, touching her cool face. "I never left, physically. When Gray Cloud said the drum brings a person back in touch with her spiritual side, he meant it. Until today I never realized I had a spiritual side."

Though she wanted to walk around, she could not leave. "I'm connected to the circle, as I was in my dream. I want answers, but it scares me."

Drums signaled the next dance was about to begin. The gang rushed to their seats. "Ladies and gentlemen, this year we are performing an Honor Song to welcome back a member. He is dancing for the first time in many years. We ask that you do not record this sacred moment."

Feeling a jab, Megan looked beside her. "What is it, Bridget?"

"Isn't that Colby?" she said, pointing to the man in the circle. "He's gorgeous."

Megan looked to the circle, her eyes opening wide. "Colby?" Her body straightened as she prepared for this dance. In the first drumbeats, a voice spoke to Megan. "Welcome him home, O! Spirit Wind. You took him away, but have returned him. We honor you in all seasons!"

Shaking her head, she wondered what was happening to her? Why did she understand the words? Who spoke to her? Colby's graceful and agile movements filled with strength demonstrated how much the wind was part of him. How else did a man who had not danced in years, move as if connected to the drum and the earth? He never missed a beat or faltered on any steps. "Perhaps he has a dancer's soul," Megan thought.

Without conscious effort, Megan's foot tapped the ground. Something about his dance seemed familiar. Within seconds she had an answer. "My dream," Megan said. "This was the same dance I did in my dream. How is this possible? How did I know this dance? Why do I want to dance now?" Her heart shouted, "It's how you and Colby celebrate his return and show thanks to the spirit wind for bringing him home."

With the last drumbeat, Colby and Gray Cloud joined the Circle M gang. "Please help us celebrate," Gray Cloud said. The others raced into the circle, leaving Megan alone. Her body disobeyed the heart's command to join him.

When Colby took her hand the world seemed right. Stepping into the circle was like being transported into another dimension where no one but she and Colby existed.
