Dance With the Wind - Page 97/108

"Again, mystery," Megan said to herself. "How can he know about the future?"

Seeing confusion in her eyes, Colby said, "One day you'll understand. For now, humor me."

"Why is everything later," she said, pulling away. "I'll understand later. I'll know more later."

"What's the point in living if you know everything today?" he said.

"I. . ." Her shoulders sank as she realized there was no response. "You are definitely Gray Cloud's grandson."

Colby smiled from the inside out. "Do you have plans for today?" he asked.

"Relaxing, and you?"

"The same."

They headed to the barn to check on the horses. "Good morning, girl," Megan said, nuzzling Misty. "Did you miss me?" Misty neighed. "I missed you, too. We'll ride later, okay?" The horse whinnied and brushed against Megan.

A warm, weighted stare fell upon her. She glanced behind and saw Colby leaned against the center post, watching. "What?" she said.

"You are amazing with horses. How does someone who doesn't believe in visions have a tender way with animals?" With her shrug, Colby continued. "A horse can't talk, yet you understand what she says to you. She understands you. So, why can't you believe in your dream about me?"

Megan turned from him. Horses were second nature to her, having been around them most of her life. Men were an undiscovered territory. "Actually, horses do talk, if you open your heart and listen," she said.

The surprised and half-crazed look in Colby's eyes came as no surprise. "You need sleep," he said.

"No. Come here." She took his hand and pulled him to Misty's stall. "Talk to her. Sing to her. See how she responds."

Megan excused herself, but did not go far. Colby laid his head against Misty while rubbing her. An instant connection happened. "Why can't I let myself go with Colby like I do with horses?" Megan wondered. "Do I forever have to be afraid of life and love?" Exhaling, she moved closer to the stall.

"Okay, teacher, I understand," Colby said. "Here's another question for you. Why do you like horses?"

"Never thought about it," she said, while she brushed Misty. "I'm myself around them. My favorite time is riding. It helps me forget about my job, college, and life in general."

"Why do you want to forget about life?" Colby asked, petting one of the other horses.
