He tipped her head up with one finger. “Sara, I love you with all my heart.”

Fresh tears streamed from Sara’s eyes. “But I’ve hurt you so much and there’s so much I have to account for.”

“Shhsh.” He gave her a reassuring smile. “It doesn’t matter.” He placed a hand on her belly. “And I’ll love this child because it’s a part of you.”

“And of you,” she said softly.

“I’ll love it like my own,” he replied, not catching her meaning.

Sara smiled. “No David, you don’t understand. The baby is yours. You, not Rashid, are the father.”

David’s eyes widened and blinked in shock. “Wha,... what are you saying? Can this be true?”

“Yes, my love, this is our baby, yours and mine. You’re going to have a son.”

“A son?”

David shook his head in wonder, it was all too much to take in. He jumped as the phone rang. Sara motioned for him to stay as she went to answer it.

“Oh, hi Daddy ... no, everything is just fine ... he won’t be coming back. ... Daddy,... Daddy, stop. I’ll explain everything later, but just so you’ll know,” she said into the mouthpiece as she gave David a wide grin, “David and I are to be married and life couldn’t be more wonderful.”
