Reluctantly, she searched her closet for something to wear, until finally she pulled out a pale blue sweater dress. She sat on the bed and pulled on her pantyhose, thinking of Bob and Dinah. They'd married the day after the divorce, and Dinah would be four, or was it five, months pregnant by now. Sara briefly wondered what would have happened if she had given in to Bob's wishes for a family. She shook her head-no, that wouldn't have worked either. She just wasn't ready to be a mother.

The doorbell rang. She hoped this client of Joey's wasn't going to be unbearable. Lawyers could be so pompous. She took one last look in the mirror. Satisfied, she headed down the stairs to join everyone in the parlor.

When she entered the room, David stood up, almost spilling his drink. His heart skipped a beat as he gazed into her bright blue eyes.

"Hello," she said, in a soft voice. "Mr. Wilson, isn't it?" She stuck out her hand.

"David. Please call me David."

She smiled and nodded, "Very well ... David." She pulled her hand from his and walked over to the dry bar, where she poured herself a glass of white wine, then turned towards him again. "Please, sit down, David." She smiled. "May I freshen your drink?"

He finally found his voice. "No thank you, it's fine." and as he sat back down on the sofa, he was amazed at his reaction to this woman.

Edith interrupted his thoughts by saying, "Sara has recently come from Boston, too. It's funny you two have never met before."

No, he would have remembered meeting Sara if he ever had. She was not the type one would forget easily.

"Oh Mom, Boston is a big city, not like Saxon Mills. Besides, Mr. Wilson, I mean David, didn't live in the city," she looked again at David, "didn't Joey tell me you lived in Newton?"

"Yes for twelve years, but for the past year I did have an apartment in the city."

"Oh, I see." Sara studied him over the rim of her glass as she took a sip.

There was an awkward pause which Joey tried to fill. "David gave me quite a game at the club today.

"David laughed and turned to Mrs. Pearson. "I'm afraid your son has that backwards. It's been a while since I've played tennis, and Joey beat me soundly."

Sara liked his laugh and surprised herself by saying, "Perhaps we could practice together sometime. It's been quite a while since I've played, too. Joey plays so often since they built that court over at the new campground, that I haven't dared play with him yet."
