"That's okay, I hope we can still be very good friends, we do that very well." He wrapped his arm around her, and both went silent. They watched as the beautiful scenery passed by. The gondola ride seemed to go on forever. Jennifer would have given her soul to let it actually continue forever. At this moment she had no desire to return to the real world. This world, the world with John holding her was what her heart wanted more than anything else. Sitting next to John, his arms wrapped around her, she felt safe, warm, cared for. She needed that right now in her life. She was tired of feeling bad over Michael's problem. She was tired of always wanting more attention from Michael. She only wanted to think of John and what a great day they'd had together. She closed her eyes for a moment, holding back tears. She put her head on Johns shoulder and held him tightly. A little while later the gondola ride ended as they pulled up to the pier where they had started, Jennifer looked up to John. "I will always remember this ride just as it was, magical."
They both were helped out of the gondola. John looked down at her standing there next to him on the pier. He then picked up her hand. "That was magical for me too. It's getting late we should head back to the hotel. We're a long way from the hotel, do you want to walk all the way back or should we get a water taxi to take us there?"
"That answer is easy, the water taxi is too quick, let's walk, this is our only night in Venice, I don't want this night to ever end, though I know it must." So they started to walk back to their hotel. Both noticed how the huge crowds of people that had walked through the city during the day were gone, the streets were almost bare. Jennifer liked that, it made it seem that much more magical. It made it seem as if this dream were just made for the two of them. John still held Jennifer's hand as they walked along, they spoke very little on the way back.
When they arrived back at their hotel entrance, they both hesitated. Jennifer looked down to the ground and said, "I guess the magic is over, time to go back up to our rooms and reality."
"Jennifer, I will cherish this day for as long as I live and I'm sure I will dream of it always." They turned and walked into the hotel front doors. After picking up their oversized room keys from the front desk, they took the elevator up to the second floor. They slowly walked down the hallway toward their doors.
