Ask Me Again (A Sample) - Page 22/38

After he made love to me one final time, I passed out from sheer pleasure. The next morning, I woke up in bed with Drake's arms wrapped tightly around my waist. I glanced at the clock on the wall. It was 9:35 A.M. I had to get up and get moving if I wanted to catch my flight and return the rental car to the airport.

Easing from Drake's arms, I tried not to wake him. I wanted to be showered and fully dressed before I had to face him again. Being quiet as possible, I grabbed my toiletries and clothes and headed for the shower. Once fully dressed, and with my teeth brushed, I entered the room to find Drake awake and looking delicious as he lay there wrapped in the hotel's white sheets. I wanted to crawl back into the bed and make love to him all over again. But, common sense prevailed. I knew in my heart that it could never happen again.

"Good morning beautiful. I could get used to waking up to you every morning."

"Good morning," I replied, ignoring the last part of his statement. I was also trying not to look at his morning erection, which could be seen through the sheet.

"Come back to bed, Alyssa."

"No. I have to get going," I said and then looked away. "And… Thank you for last night, but this can never happen again. Let's just chalk this mistake up to us finally having closure."

Getting out of the bed in all of his naked glory, he turned me to face him and enclosed my hands in his. "I know you aren't trying to dismiss last night as a mistake. Stop lying to yourself. You know that the two of us being together never was and will never be a mistake. This was fate. Fate brought us back together. It took sad circumstances to bring us to this point, but it brought us together nonetheless."

"Well, we were together and now I am leaving," I said as I began to pack my things.

"Please, don't hold on to how I hurt you in the past. I was hoping the passing years would allow you the time to forgive me one day."

"No Drake, I'm not holding on to the past. I am just living in the moment we are in where I have a boyfriend and you have a wife. Now, could you please put some clothes on?"

"Ex-wife," Drake said as he walked to the bathroom.

While he showered and dressed, I used that time to finish packing. I waited for him on the sofa where we started our lovemaking the night before. When he came out of the bedroom, thankfully he was fully dressed. I knew leaving him wouldn't be easy, but I had no other options. My life was in New York. David, a man I was supposed to love and be faithful to, was there waiting for me. Breathing deeply, I laid my cards on the table for Drake.
