"Girl, I guess I'm just still tired from the trip. Don't worry about me, I'll be alright."
"This is Bernadette you're talking to, remember? Spill it girl!"
I looked at her slyly, because I knew she knew me so well. "Well... when I was in Auburn, I did something I'm not too proud of."
"Tell me and don't leave anything out," she said inching her seat closer, so we wouldn't be overheard.
"You remember years ago when we first met and I didn't want to date anyone you tried to introduce me too. Then, I told you how devastated I was when I caught my boyfriend cheating on me in college."
"Yeah, I remember all that. His name was Drake Peterson, right? The one that was the defensive lineman for the Dallas Cowboys."
"Yes, that's him, but he's retired now."
"Yeah, what about him?"
"I ran into him after Denise's funeral at the cemetery."
"What was so bad about that, Alyssa? You were bound to see people you know."
"Put a cap on it girl, and let me finish. You see after we left the cemetery, everyone went back to Weston's house for awhile. When I left Weston's house, I wasn't alone. Drake wanted to talk to me and suggested we get a drink. Instead of going somewhere public, I suggested that we have a drink in my hotel room, because I was tired. I assumed we would have one drink, air out our past and he would leave. To make a long story short, one thing led to another, and I cheated on David." I put down the half eaten pizza. I was unable to finish it.
"Girl! Men do that shit all the time, so don't beat yourself up about it. Don't let those tears fall," she said looking into my glistening eyes. "At least it was with someone you knew and not any old stranger off the street."
Shaking my head, I couldn't believe the words that came out of Bernadette's mouth. Then again, that was just like her to say something like that.
"Damn, girl! You really did it with a pro football player?"
"Ex-football player," I said starting to feel a little queasy from the pizza.
"Ex or not, I'll take him if you don't want him. That man is fine as hell. For real though, if you weren't my friend I would seriously get with him myself if I had the chance."
I couldn't help but laugh. "You are a straight up fool, you know that? If I didn't know how smart you really are Bernadette, I would seriously think about having you committed. But listen, Drake also said that he wants to see me again. It's like he just wants me to jump into a relationship with him, just like that," I said snapping my fingers for emphasis.
